I am one of 3,240 young people that have been selected from the UK to join 50,000 young people taking part in the World Scout Jamboree. The Jamboree is a skills, cultural and adventure festival which offers young people like me the chance to learn new skills that I can use in other aspects of life as well as campaign for change on key world issues that matter to me, such as diversity, inclusion and global sustainability. 25WSJ will take place in August 2023 and will be located in SaeManGeum in South Korea.

"Hello, I’m Ellie and I’m currently 14. I’m an Explorer Scout and also a Young Leader helping at Etwall Beavers.
You will no doubt have noticed by now that I have a stammer, but I try very hard not to let it stop me achieving the things I want to do.
The tag line for WSJ 25 is “Draw your Dream”. My dream is to be part of local and global communities demonstrating that people who are neuro-diverse can go beyond their comfort zones, and that they can do so with confidence, that prejudices and obstacles can be overcome through education, support and kindness, and that being “different” should certainly not hold you back from doing what you want to do in life. I am passionate about educating people in how they can support someone with a stammer, and I recently received the Radio Derby Make a Difference “Young Hero” award for the work I do for this.
Attending WSJ25 would allow me to is increase awareness of stammering and other hidden disabilities, and promote diversity and inclusivity on a global stage.
Attending WSJ25 would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience to truly feel part of a global movement, participate in activities which might not be available to me again, and help South Korea celebrate 100 years of Scouting. It would be the biggest adventure of my life so far, and also the greatest challenge, which would suit my determined nature well, and the experience of different cultures would be something that would stay with me for life. Although some knowledge of other cultures and races can be gained through the media and through school lessons, first-hand experience of living within that culture would lead to greater understanding and appreciation.
This experience would help me to develop my personal resilience, and also my organisational, communication, financial and time-management skills in order to appropriately prepare, fundraise and get the most out of the trip. Learning and having a better understanding of these would benefit me throughout all areas of life going forward.
I would aim to involve my Scout Group by exploring a new country, culture and traditions with them virtually (especially my Beavers), passing on some of the life skills I will be learning along the way, and reinforcing the concept of a worldwide Scouting family. I would be able to show others that you don’t have to let anything hold you back. Just because someone has a disability or difference doesn’t mean they should let any fear, doubt or uncertainty stop them from going for it and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone, because we are capable of anything if you put your mind to it, you get so much more out of life if you try and see, because if you don’t, then you wont ever know what could have happened or what possibilities could come up in the future for you. I can hopefully demonstrate that differences are valued and not a barrier to participation, maybe even inspiring and supporting other Scouts to apply for international events themselves in the future."
