Join Harleston Magpies Hockey Club for our virtual balloon race this Valentines Day.

We all need something fun to occupy our minds whilst we are unable to participate in the activities we love and what better way to do this than by taking part in Ecoracings virtual balloon race setting off from The Eiffel Tower, Paris on 14th February.

All you have to do is purchase a balloon via the blue button at the bottom of this page - keep scrolling down and you will find it - name and decorate your balloon in time for the race start and decide upon its helium content and rubber thickness.

For those new to balloon racing the thickness of the rubber and helium content is critical to your success. Balloons flying at lower levels can be struck by geese or even strike an electricity pylon or church spire. Conversely, flying at the highest altitude possible increases the risk of bursting from excess swelling through intense sunlight or orbital debris. Rubber thickness can protect your balloon from bursting but is heavy, helium can make it fly higher and therefore faster - the right combination is yours to experiment with. (Don’t worry the balloon design process is really easy and great fun for kids and adults alike).

Once the balloons are launched virtually at 12 noon on 14th February you will then be able to follow the progress of your balloon and all those in our race as the balloons travel across France, wherever the wind takes them.

Magpies race lasts for 7 days at the end of which the balloons that have travelled the furthest away from the start point are in line to win:

1st Prize: Cadburys Valentine Treasure Box
2nd Prize: Gnaw Chocolate Bundle
3rd Prize: Swizzles Retro Sweet Hamper

Balloons entered in Magpies race will also have the to chance to compete for Ecoracings Valentine Days National prizes:

1st Place: £500 Cash
2nd Place: Apple iPad
3rd Place: 10 lucky winners of £10 Book Tokens

Harleston Magpies Hockey Club is located in the heart of the Waveney Valley, it is an amazing location where we encourage all, from the age of 8 to 80 to play hockey and be part of a Club in the heart of a rural community (South Norfolk / North Suffolk).

The Club owns two artificial turf hockey pitches, a clubhouse with changing facilities and a further 9 acres of playing fields outside of Harleston from where we run 16 teams playing in regular leagues (from national to local level) and age group teams from U10 to Over 50s. Alongside providing coaching and training sessions for all club members on a weekly basis.

However, to continue to enable participation, playing and training at social, club and elite standards our facilities need continued investment and development and it is time to replace our water based pitch surface after 19 seasons of use.
