A personal message from Mr S Claus of Lapland....

As I'm sure you can appreciate, December can be a pretty busy month for me. Every year I look forward to a well-earned rest on Christmas Day, snoozing by a roaring fire with Mrs Claus, Rudolph and my team of Elves.

But not this year.

Those nice people from Denby Dale & District Rotary Club have been in touch and asked me to stay awake to launch a special balloon race at 9am on Christmas day which will raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research, Dementia UK and other charities and organisations. This is part of a bigger race run by the lovely people at Ecoracing - so people supporting other charities will be in the same race.

They tell me that the environmentally friendly, online event will take place over 7 days and is a perfect opportunity for you to give a very different Xmas present while helping some extremely well-deserving causes.

It's really easy for you to buy a balloon for yourself or someone special in your life and I know that your children and grandchildren would love one – believe me, I'm an expert when it comes to gifts!

The clever Rotarians have made it possible for you to customise your balloon with a name, short message and even choose your own colour – I'm rather fond of red.

What's more, you can check the progress of your balloons at any time during the race. I'll definitely be checking on mine to make sure I beat Mrs Claus!

Buy everyone in the family a balloon and have your very own competition too. If you're lucky enough to have one of the top three balloons that fly the furthest, then you'll receive an extra-special Christmas gift.

All this for just £3.00 each balloon. That's a bigger bargain than the 20 tons of Reindeer feed I've just picked up online.
