In February this year I was luckily selected to be a member of the UK Contingent International Service Team (IST) for the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in August 2023. The Jamboree is a skills, cultural and adventure festival happening in sensational and scenic South Korea. As an IST member, I will be an adult volunteer who is helping to pull off the Jamboree experience for nearly 40,000 young people from around the world. This will be the first time that so many young people from so many different nations will be gathering together since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
The theme is “Think big. Dream wild. Act together.” – focusing especially on how we can be trailblazers in creating a sustainable world together.’
For the young people, the World Scout Jamboree offers young people the chance to learn new skills that they can use in other aspects of their life as well as campaign for change on key world issues that matter to them. I am excited to be part of delivering this experience to so many young people. However, I am also excited for the new skills that being part of the Jamboree will bring for me. Already, being part of Girlguiding UK for the last two and a half years has done amazing things for my confidence and skills. It has been a huge asset to me as I undertook my teacher training qualification last year. I have had experiences that I never imagined for myself. I am proud to say I can now pitch a tent (with only minimal assistance) as well as complete cross stitch and turns out I can still hold my own in a game of tig!
As part of the Jamboree I need to raise £3000 for my place on the IST. I’ve had several people mention that they’d like to support me during my journey and I like the idea of giving them something for their donation. Fingers crossed one of you wins the £100 cash!

How does EcoRacing work?

- Watch your balloon launch and race online on the 1st August 2022 as part of a wider 'Jamboree' race, encompassing multiple people raising money for the Jamboree.
- Let EcoRacing take care of the rest without worrying about adding pointless plastic in the oceans! Balloons are subject to mathematical and physics algorithms to simulate a flight pattern based on your balloon’s individual flight parameters plus the real weather conditions at that actual time such as the prevailing wind speed and current temperature.
- Sit back and hope you designed a winner! The first prize is £100 cash, followed by an Amazon Alexa/Echo Dot and finally 10 lucky winners of £10 book tokens.
