Buy an imaginary balloon (or several), enjoy tracking its progress on maps for a week, and support Arnside Choral Society. You might even win a prize, too.

The "World Environment Day" virtual balloon race, supporting a wide range of charities, will "launch" at Manaus, Brazil, at 12 noon on Wednesday 5th June 2024, and you can buy balloons up to half an hour before that time. You can choose the shape, colour(s), and pattern of your balloon, write a name or message on it, and alter the thickness of rubber and amount of helium which affect how it "flies" (different weather patterns at different heights), and then watch its progress for a week, updated every half hour. All totally imaginary (except the weather data), no litter or harm to wildlife, no use of the earth's precious helium, just a very entertaining computer programme! At the end of the week, there are prizes of £100 and an Amazon Alexa / Echo Dot, for the balloons which "fly" furthest (as the crow flies), and a special prize of a Coast Office voucher for the winner among balloons supporting Arnside Choral Society.

Arnside Choral Society needs to raise funds to support its concert programme: we pay our professional accompanying musicians at an appropriate rate, and excellence costs money.

Each balloon costs you £3, and £2.25 of this comes directly to help Arnside Choral Society. You can even buy a balloon for someone else - you pay, you get a code to send them, they buy the balloon and they have the fun of tracking it: a little postage-free present for someone, perhaps? Get the grandchildren competing against each other? If you have friends who really don't "do" online, they can give you the £3, you buy a balloon and put their name on it, you can tell them how it's going or show them on your device when you meet!
