I am utterly delighted to have been selected to lead a trip to Canada for eight young members of Girlguiding Worcestershire in July 2020. We will travel to Vancouver Island to join the Spirit of Adventure Rendezvous (SOAR), an international camp hosted by the Girl Guides of Canada BC.

Whilst on camp, we will live alongside and take part in activities with thousands of other Guides and Rangers from around the world, building confidence as we take on challenging activities, developing cultural awareness and understanding, and testing our resilience in a 'back to basics' environment. We will also be participating in a service project on camp, and will have the chance to explore the island and Vancouver city for a few days. It is a huge personal challenge for me as well as for the girls, and I am incredibly excited (and a teeny bit nervous!). Whilst I have been on many an international Guiding adventure, this is the first time I will be directly responsible for a team of young members - eek!

The balloon race is a fun and environmentally friendly way to help me fundraise to cover my trip costs as a leader, so that I can help provide this incredible experience for the Guides and Rangers, who are also fundraising their trip sosts. I will also cover volunteer shifts whilst on camp, which could be anything from running camp activities, to cooking, to cleaning the loos!

Pick your balloon and customise it's design! The balloons will 'launch' on Christmas day, with their simulated flights determined by actual weather data linked to Google maps and commercial weather data suppliers. As it's Christmas, the race will launch from Santa's Village (aka Lapland, Finland) and you can follow the leading balloons. The winning balloon is the one that has flown the furthest in a straight line in the 7 days of the race, and will win £500!
