SSD UK is a small, personal charity run entirely by volunteers who share a great love for animals. Being a small charity all help, no matter how large or small, makes a real difference to lives of the many, many beautiful dogs who are cleared up off the streets of southern Spain and placed in to pounds. It is easy to assume that ‘pounds’ equate to ‘rescue shelters’, however this is not the case.  Pounds are designated holding places for dogs that have been removed from the streets and fields; they are often massively overstretched and therefore overcrowded – noisy and frightening environments for animals.  New dogs are admitted daily, and comforts are not a priority. Here at SSD UK we search for kind, caring, patient forever families in the UK to adopt Spanish Stray dogs that have been rescued from the streets of Spain and placed in pounds. Our dogs have mostly known sadness, cruelty and have only known a life of neglect and abuse. Since 2012 we have helped over hundreds of Spanish Stray Dogs find forever homes in the UK.

Due to Covid-19 we haven't been able to do the usual physical fundraising activities to raise much needed funds. So we are holding this Virtual Balloon Race in the hope of raising money to pay for food, shelter, boarding and veterinary fees for the dogs in our care - both in the pound in Spain and those already here in the UK in kennels and foster homes for those waiting to be adopted in to their forever homes.
