In 2020 we are taking the Guides on a once in a lifetime 10 day trip to Adelboden, Switzerland - one of the homes of Guiding. Whilst there they will experience the culture, meet with other Guides and Scouts from around the world and remake their Promise at Our Chalet - one of the 4 World Guiding Centres. For many this will be their first ever trip abroad and/or first time away from home without family so a big challenge in itself (and for the parents!). We are raising money to keep this affordable for everyone and take part in some fantastic activities to make it a really amazing and memorable trip for all.

The balloons will be ‘launched’ on 14th February from the Eiffel Tower. They are then subjected to a simulated flight pattern based on the actual weather conditions such as the prevailing wind speed and current temperature. This simulation uses an advanced computer modelling programme linked to Google maps and a commercial weather data supplier. Anyone can follow the leading 100 balloons online through the 7 days of the race.

The winning balloon (£500 prize) is the one that has flown the furthest in a straight line from the launch location. Interestingly, a popped / burst balloon can still win if the wind direction changes and sends the still-flying balloons backwards in a reverse direction.
