We make reusable menstruation kits for girls overseas who would otherwise miss out on school, as a team of Days for Girls International, and have diversified into a range of other sewing projects supporting various causes including St John's Hospice in Lancaster for whom we make bags for bereaved relatives collecting their loved one's possessions, and skirts to fit round catheter bags to give patients a bit of dignity.

We meet twice a month in Arnside and need money to pay our rent at the Educational Institute, and to buy some of our materials (although we receive a lot of wonderful donations of fabric).

By buying a balloon in this virtual balloon race you are supporting us, and also have a chance of a prize in the overall race. Your imaginary balloon will be launched from Manaus in Brazil at noon on 11th September, and you can follow its progress on the map, as calculated by a clever computer programme using real weather reports, for a full week, updated every half an hour, before the race ends with a winner. It's all completely virtual - nothing to harm the planet or create litter or injure wildlife. Having bought your balloon you can choose its shape, colour(s) and pattern, give it a name, and tweak a couple of parameters which can affect how high it flies and thus which weather patterns affect it. You could buy balloons for your family members and have your own private race.
