HERMITAGE AND OAKTREE PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Be part of the big Christmas Day Balloon Race - buy a balloon, create and decorate your balloon and then track it. Will it go all the way, where will it reach, will it pop!! HOPA receives over £2 for each balloon purchased.

An organisation to which the parents/carers and staff of the Hermitage and Oaktree Schools automatically belong. Our aim is to raise funds for the schools and have fun doing it!

The Hermitage and Oaktree Parents' Association (HOPA) was set up in 1969 to help support the Hermitage and Oaktree schools equally. Our main aim is to provide a little extra money in order to enhance the education of our children while they attend these schools.

This year we are unable to hold our annual Christmas Fair, so it’s more important than ever that we try to raise much needed funds. Without HOPA raising funds, all the extras such as new reading books, IT equipment and play areas for the children at the schools could not be purchased.

ABOUT BALLOONS
What makes a balloon burst?
Real balloons made of latex rubber are notoriously vulnerable and your virtual balloon is no different. If you chose thin rubber to make your balloon fly higher and therefore faster, your balloon could just explode if the wind speeds become excessive.

Balloons flying at lower levels are often struck by geese flying at higher altitudes than normal birds. If you balloon is at a very low level and heading for rocky Earth, it could even strike an electricity pylon or church spire. Conversely, flying at the highest altitude possible increases the risk of bursting from excess swelling through intense sunlight or orbital debris, for example.

So, to create a potential winning balloon, it pays to check the prevailing weather patterns before your race starts and chose your balloon parameters accordingly.
