CAMBRIDGE AID

The Bentley House Charity event 2021 - EcoRacing virtual balloons - The Coronation Race

Welcome to St Faith’s first ever Virtual Balloon Race – we’d love you to take part in our Bentley House Charity fundraising event this year, in support of Cambridge Aid! This is virtual, so totally environmentally friendly and there is no risk to wildlife!!!

There will be prizes for our furthest flying St Faith’s Balloons.

The prizes for the St Faith's balloons that cover the most distance over the week long race are:
*1st – 20th Place – A Hamper kindly donated by the St Faith’s Chartwells catering team.

National Star Prizes (for the balloons that fly the furthest, from all charities joining this race):
* 1st: £500 cash prize
* 2nd: iPad
* 10 book tokens worth £10 each

Each balloon costs just £3 and you can buy as many balloons as you want to increase your chances of winning. As well as taking part in the overall race and competing with your friends you could have a competition between you and family members or friends to see whose balloons travel the furthest.

The Coronation Race we have entered launches from Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 2nd June. The balloons fly over seven-days, in a computer simulated race where everything is real, except the balloon. The direction and distance the balloons fly is based completely on the way you customise your balloon, and the weather during the week. Other hazards can also affect your balloons flight such as low flying geese if your balloon doesn't have enough helium! Eeek! The winner of the race is the balloon that’s flown the furthest in any direction.

Once you purchase your virtual balloon(s) you can spend some time giving it a name, choosing its colour and designing its shape and pattern. You can even decide how much helium to pump into your balloon as well as how thick the foil is! You can alter your balloon’s parameters at any time before the race departs to improve your chance of winning. The software designed to run the race uses live weather data to determine the progress of each balloon and entries can be tracked on Google Maps and Satellites once launched.

Due to Covid-19 we sadly had to cancel our Bentley Brownie Sale and we’ve had to rethink some of our other fundraising activities this year. The Year 8 Bentley House prefects, under the guidance of Mr North, were able to pitch four different charities to the whole of Bentley House during an online assembly. As a result Bentley House will support ‘Cambridge Aid’ this year. Please see the short video at the top of this screen for further information on ‘Cambridge Aid’.

We hope that you will enjoy taking part in this fun event from the comfort of your own home and help us to support this very worthy charity.

Please do share our virtual balloon race with as many friends and family members that you can (you can even gift balloons!) and we thank you all for your ongoing support as we all continue to navigate through this tough period.

If your balloon finishes in the top 20 of St Faith's entrants, please email ejohnson@stfaiths.co.uk to claim your hamper!
