Creating a Reading for Pleasure culture in our school is an area of development for us and we have over the past year and a half embedded a new approach to reading across the school. This has included a significant update of the reading environments in each classroom and redevelopment of our school library.
One of the biggest challenges we have is investing in high quality books that support our reading for pleasure initiative across the school. We want the children to have access to brilliant books where all children can find themselves reflected. Each class studies a new book every six weeks and we need enough books to support this in class (in some cases 15 copies per class) to further enhance the programme we’ve invested in.
In addition, we continue to remodel our library area and want more beautiful books to make it a place children can go to select books and read for pleasure.
We all know, it’s a challenging time to be a school and overall school funding is insufficient.
· 1 in 4 schools predict a deficit budget in 2021/22.
· Per pupil funding has fallen over the last decade
· Spending per pupil in 2024 will be at the same level as 2010 but costs won’t be!
To this end, PaFA want to support this critical initiative within our school and will be raising funds to buy more books for our children. Please support us where you can, and we will keep you updated of our progress against our target.
