My friend, Jack, has been having eye surgeries since Lockdown 2020 to try to correct his 24/7 double vision. I had no idea of this when I first met him at TriClub - he was one of the first to welcome me to the club & helped me settle in. We love running & racing together… he’s awesome. You wouldn’t know that he had a disability from how speedy he is, believe me!!!!

Jack was told by the doctors at the LRI that there wasn’t much more they could do for him, but his parents got in touch with Moorfields Eye Hospital in London last year who were able to take Jack on as an NHS patient.

Jack has had 4 eye surgeries down in London since last July, 3 lots of Botox into the eyes & then in October this year he had a general anaesthetic & surgery on his eye muscles to try to correct the double vision.

Unfortunately, 5 weeks after surgery, Jack’s double vision came back. He travelled back to London for an update last weekend & was told that his brain doesn't fuse both eyes together & that no further surgery will correct his double vision.

The next stage for Jack will be to block the vision in one eye by using a special contact lens, which will lead to him being visually impaired.

Jack’s the same age as me & I know I would be so upset if this was happening to me. I also know that Jack will still want to compete in Triathlons & cross country races. He competed in some races not long after his last operation, with the help of guide runners…

I’m setting up this fundraiser after Jack was told that he needed even more Botox before Christmas. He had to travel back to London on Mon 16th to have surgery on the 17th. That’s one week before Christmas! My mum’s told me how expensive it is for Jack & his Mum to travel down there on the train, as well as having to pay to stay somewhere overnight. This is the case every time he needs an appointment or treatment & I’d really like to help him with this.
