The Surrey Federation of Women’s Institutes 2021 wishes are in line with WI members across the country, who are committed to do their utmost to reduce the plastic soup and plastic waste of all kinds that threaten the existence of life on our planet.
The pollution has been highlighted during the Covid19 pandemic as everything now seems to have a ‘disposable plastic’ element and we all know that the majority of plastic is not recyclable. Real balloons also contribute to plastic pollution and destroy our rivers and oceans.
During 2020 WI members also debated the unregulated use of our precious and irreplaceable, helium gas, so vital to MRI machines and decided that it should not to be wasted on balloons.
Our race competitors will help to drive forward the knowledge of the wastage and pollution and to have fun with a completely eco-friendly race.
To highlight our commitment to the natural world, we will be donating half of the profits raised to The Woodland Trust.
